Dear TBC Members:
I am pleased to unveil the "Short List" of books nominated by you for our 2016 Reading List. My thanks to Lorraine & Josee for their tremendous assistance and support through this process.
There were a total of 57 books nominated. Some by more than one person. We short-listed down to 24. Each book that had more than one nomination made it onto the List. It wasn't easy. We each ended up cutting out books we individually would have liked to see on the List. So here they are.
A word about the coding below. You will see "fractions" listed at the end of each Period Heading, e.g. 2/4 or 1/3. That means, for example, looking at the "Early Antiquity & Classical Greek Period", you will see the code "2/4". This means that there are 4 books on the Short List for that Period, 2 of which will be selected for reading by secret ballot at the meetup. Similarly, for the "Renaissance & Early Modern Period": the code is "1/3" meaning that we will be selecting only one book from the 3 on the Short List for that Period, and so forth.
The Book Selection & Social meetup is scheduled for December 9. Between now and then we invite you to advocate for your favourites on this message board. Everyone whose name appears next to a short-listed selection will also get 2 minutes at the meetup to orally advocate for their selection, after which there will be a secret ballot vote.
Have fun. We look forward to seeing you on December 9.
