Game development is a domain where the diversity of platforms, technologies, engines available to devs is really hard to comprehend. A rather not-so-often mentioned tool is Node.js. It can be used as a multiplayer game server, controlling the logic and handling the WebSockets connections to the players, or for player authentication and the storage of data for gameplay persistence over multiple game sessions, Node.js should be considered as an offering platform. The first part of the February edition of Timisoara Game Developers meetup will be dedicated to a deep, hands-on presentation by our group co-organizer Romuald Halasz on a Multiplayer Game he developed in Node.js.

For the second part of the evening we'll try to explore the educative side of computer games. They are mostly played for fun and entertainment, nobody disagrees! Alongside this benefits, pursuing an positive educational outcome can be the reasoning for starting and unrolling a game development process. If you have developed an educational game you are invited to join the lineup for this second part of the meetup.
UPDATE: We'll add to the program a presentation of Frasatti Defense the first real foray into making games done as a team by Tudor Vaida, Alexandru March, Bogdan Ilie, Victor Rubinstein, Paul Mitrica, Bogdan Petrar. They chose a simple tower defense project in order to start small, and got a hang of things with a manageable project. The gameplay is straightforward, standard tower defense fare as they wanted to understand the process of making a game, not get bogged down into a design doc that had new features added to it each day. The team will shortly present their experience in developing this simple game, and the challenges they've faced.
