Both enterprises and start-ups need access to flexible, scalable and cost-effective hosting platforms and services. In the past, purchasing hardware and anticipating growth were two of the many challenges that often resulted in systems that were either too large and wasted capacity, or too small and underpowered. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a collection of remote computing services that can help to solve many of these issues with traditional application hosting and design.

Building applications designed to take advantage of the AWS platform enables organizations to pay for only what they need and allows them to grow or shrink that need over time and automatically. AWS also frees developers to focus on solving problems instead of worrying about whether they have enough capacity.

This presentation will review how Hanson is using AWS for their clients and the benefits that AWS offers to developers, organizations and users.

Stephen Bumbaugh is a director of engineering at Hanson Inc., where he’s been coding his way up the ladder for the last 11 years. He previously worked as a software engineer for Eaton Corporation while earning his B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Toledo. His current interests include cloud computing (witness his obsession with Amazon Web Services), service based architectures and mobile development. But lest you think he’s a pasty-faced nerd, he spends a lot of time outdoors, raising Trinidad Scorpion Butch T hot peppers, jeeping (yes, it’s a word) through Big Horn National Forest, and training for the upcoming Maumee Bay Triathlon on June 16.
