A little bit of both overall. But when it comes specifically to digital gaming like coding, I'm brand spanking new.
I was told by a programming wizard that its more important for indie developers to understand game theory before diving into the technical aspects of digital gaming. So far I do enjoy being able to dive into game dynamics outside of digital because it allows me to make things I'll want to digitally prototype in the near future instead of focusing on mastering the digital skills and then later focusing on a concept. There is no right or wrong way to go about it but maybe if you can dive into gaming immediately you might be more likely to stick with it in the long run.
