Are you the kind of person who loves to sing, but only dares to sing in the shower? Maybe you’ve been looking for a more ‘whole-body’ approach to singing? Or perhaps you’ve never sung before, have always wanted to, but have been waiting for the right environment?
Voice Movement Therapy (VMT) with Daryl Vineberg might just be the door you’ve been looking to open.
Humans are expressive creatures and it is natural for us to move and sing. It feels good to express ourselves! VMT is an expressive arts therapy based in the body. It uses voice, movement, song, theatre and images as well as physical grounding, stretching and verbal exchange to bring about a more embodied vocal, physical and emotional expression.
Opening the expressiveness of the voice allows the voice to emerge more fully, but what really emerges is the person.
Each session will be open to anyone interested who registers by day's end on the Friday before the Saturday session. Sessions will be one hour long, cost $10/person and will take place on St. Clair West near Oakwood.
To be clear - the session is a taster, and is largely experiential. I will guide participants through a physical warm-up and some breathwork, and then through a couple of exercises which introduce a few of the vocal or non-vocal components of VMT. The session is not intended to be a global overview of all VMT has to offer, nor is it intended to be a group therapy session. The intention is for participants to have the chance to experience in themselves a relaxation, an attention and/or inner physical/emotional connection to their voice, which can also be a wonderful - and potent - starting point for an expressive body-based therapy.

Daryl left a full-time career in environmental engineering because it failed to satisfy his need for deeply meaningful work. He devoted himself to pursuing his heart's desire and discovered the highly expressive worlds of Georgian polyphonic folk music, contact improv dance, improvisational theatre and VMT. Daryl completed the Foundation Training in VMT in 2008 and is now a registered practitioner. He is currently in the final year of a four-year training program in Psychotherapy, Bioenergetics and Integral Healing at the Integral Healing Centre of Toronto. Daryl lives in Toronto with his wife and seventeen-month-old son and runs one-on-one and group VMT sessions.
