Hydro Fields & Bungalows 2.0 (with added DVP)

This is a repeat of the Hydro Fields & Bungalows ride held on July 21 with the inclusion of the DVP and some changes based on suggestions. Most noteworthy change: there will be no sweep to bring up the rear, and the expected pace will be 22 km/hr. We will stop briefly at optional exits marked on the map to regroup.

Experience the biking infrastructure of Scarborough. Majority of the route will be bike friendly or empty residential streets, but biking on major streets without a bike lane will be necessary. See the revised route map here: http://goo.gl/maps/37kgf

We will be travelling 22 km/hour without a sweep. Riders should be prepared to tackle hills. It is a long and winding route so it is essential that everyone be able to keep up.

Start: Tim Hortons, 731 Eastern Ave - plenty of parking in the area
Leg 1: 11.81 km - cyclists can exit at Haldon Ave.
Leg 2: 9.46 km - cyclists can exit at Kennedy Subway Station
Leg 3: 6.1 km - 30 minute rest stop at Coffee Culture, 2060 Ellesmere Rd
Leg 4: 8.18 km - cyclists can exit at Guildwood GO Station (http://www.gotransit.com/publicroot/en/PDF/Timetables/CurrentBoard/Table09.pdf) or take the 86 Scarborough bus (bike racks available) to Kennedy Station (http://www.ttc.ca/Routes/86/Westbound.jsp).
Leg 5: 23.23 km - the most difficult portion of the ride with rolling hills and frequent trips on Kingston Road.
Finish: Ed's Real Scoop, 920 Queen St. E.
Total: 58.78 km

Hello everyone, Today was my first time riding with the group, and I must say owe everyone who showed up today a big thank you.

Started out with a rear tire flat. Members of the group ran to help me out and my flat was fixed in no time flat!

After the rest stop, my bike took a dive and I fell hard and knocked my head on the curb. I always knew helmets were important but now it has been proven to me how absolutely essential they are. If I didn't have one I think I would be telling a very different story right now.

The group again came to my assistance and called an ambulance and I was taken to Toronto East general Hospital, where I was seen pretty quickly and ex-rays were taken and the doctor thinks I will be just fine, but I have to watch out for signs of a concussion.

I would like to extend a hand of gratitude to everyone who was there, making this an enjoyable ride, and coming to my assistance when I needed it.

I was treated as one of your own, thank you very much,

    Bashir

Thanks for the good wishes guys! Subsequent visit to the doctor cleared me to get back on my bike, YAY! Only problem I have is the wound on my palm (note to self: always wear gloves). It is very superficial, just peeled off skin, but very painful. Can't hold the handlebars for any length of time.

One of better mid-size loops in the Toronto area, with some rolling hills and winding trails. Highly recommend this to everyone... In my opinion this is a better ride than the so called "tour of Mississauga" .

It's a cool trail! Thanks Denise for organzing. Going down to Bluffers park on the way would be cool! There's nice new pavement on the bottom where you can go very fast!

Hi I'm thinking of joining you for this ride. What kind of bike would be best suited for this ride MTB or Road bike? Thank you.

    September 20, 2013

    • Denise I

I recommend road bike unless you are comfortable going 22km/hr on your mountain bike.

A street construction note: Be-warned that Lakeshore intersection access to the Leslie, is closed as of today (Thursday). It is a big mess. Use the Eastern Ave. to get to the Tim Horton.

Part 2, will be better than the 1st, and the 1st was great!

As early as tomorrow, the section of Leslie St in front of the Tim Hortons where we are supposed to meet will be closed. However, Tim Hortons will be accessible via Lakeshore Blvd to the south or Mosley St to the north. For more information, please see September 13 of Latest News for the Leslie Barns at projects.TTC.ca.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
