Our next topic is Visualization! Check out our "getting started" blog post (http://engineroom.trackmaven.com/blog/using-cartodb-and-threejs-for-mapping/) that goes through making some maps, including a fancy 3D globe (http://engineroom.trackmaven.com/demos/globe/map.html) showing US airport data. Here are some places you might start for creating visualization in general:

D3.js (http://d3js.org/) has lots of beautiful examples (https://github.com/mbostock/d3/wiki/Gallery) of visualizations with great animations/transitions (some more practical than others)

• Highcharts (http://www.highcharts.com/) is similar to D3 and offers specific visualization libraries for stocks (http://www.highcharts.com/products/highstock) and maps (http://www.highcharts.com/products/highmaps)

Three.js (http://threejs.org/) is great for 3D WebGL graphics

• Crossfilter (http://square.github.io/crossfilter/) from Square, while less pretty, helps quickly visualize large datasets

• Leaflet (http://leafletjs.com/) is a JS library for creating interactive maps; mapbox (https://www.mapbox.com/) is a service built on top of it

• CartoDB (http://cartodb.com/) is fantastic for making quick maps with no more effort than drag-and-drop data

TrackMaven's Monthly Challenge is a chance to experiment with new technologies and explore creative projects. Each month, we will name a general topic, a new technology, or something in between. We'll collect a few resources and examples to get you started, then it's up to you; make something interesting! Each month, we'll meet up to share rapid-fire presentations, as raw or as polished as you'd like.
