Details
This park is located on the North Fork of the Little River on the county line between Durham and Orange Counties. It has nice trails which we may, from time to time, step off of. The terrain, a riparian corridor has steep slopes and rolling hills and is, generally, an easy walk.
Here we will visit an evolved mill seat that shows evidence of a "tub" mill, the simplest of all water powered devices, that evolved into a major milling operation over a span of, perhaps a century. Beside the mill seat, there are several wagon fords and a horse ford over the Little River to be seen.
We have not done deed work on this site but it seems a safe bet that the original mill was here in the 18th century as this part of Durham County (then yet part of Orange County) was settled quite early.
We haven't been to this site in some time and it will be fun rediscovering old finds and maybe seeing some new items along the way.
