Fall Camp Jefferson Area (Kid and Dog Friendly)

Fall Camp Jefferson Area (Kid and Dog Friendly)

Details

Since the last camping trip at this site was such a hit, let's do another one!

This will be a Dog and Kid friendly trip.

Please note, since this is somewhat late in October, weather may very well be a factor in whether or not this camping trip will occur. I am hoping for fair weather but you just never know until the week of. Regardless, please bring all necessary gear and shelter for some potentially frigid nights. :)

This is primitive car camping only, so make sure to bring plenty of water and all the gear you will need and of course some adult style beverages and especially hot cocoa and ingredients to make S'mores to relax with around the campfire.

Also, I am planning on bringing a few cords of wood but if you could bring one or two cords as well, this will ensure we will be cozy by a nice fire at night. :)

The Plan: To do a group camp in the Jefferson area that will allow folks to do their own hikes, mountain biking or fishing and have a relaxing atmosphere to come back to and socialize around the camp fire. There are many trails to hike or mountain bike in the area (Colorado Trail, West Jefferson Trail) or lot's of fishing to be had (Jefferson Lake, Upper and Lower Michigan Reservoir and Tarryall Reservoir).

This trip is intended to be low-key and I will be relaxing at the campsite for the majority of the time.

Directions: From Conifer take the 285 south for 37 miles to the town of Jefferson. As soon as you come into town you will want to turn right onto Michigan Creek Rd (Park county rd 35). As you take Michigan Creek Rd at mile 2.8 it will fork, stay to the right (turns to dirt road here). At mile 5.3 the road will again fork, stay to the left this time. At mile 6.3 it will open out to a large meadow with large pine trees that can accommodate a lot of people. For those technology savy people, the GPS coordinates for the camp site are 39.415524, -105.888551.

You won't need a high clearance vehicle for this as the dirt road is fairly well maintained. I've seen a mini van all the way at the top of Georgia pass following this route.
