Paddleboard OR Kayak at Gravel Ponds in Chatfield
Gravel Ponds at Chatfield, 11500 N Roxborough Park Rd, Littleton, CO, USThis is a great place even if you are a beginner. Early start because of limited parking and the fact this is enormously popular!
WHAT TO BRING:
- State Park Pass on you or your car or whatever the cost is to get in.
- 2a) Your own SUP/Kayak/whatever vehicle you can use (no powered vehicles allowed). Someone did tell me kayaks were discouraged b/c the Ponds are small and kayaks are faster in general....
b) Rent a kayak or SUP at https://www.5280paddlesports.com/. Earliest rental is 8:30am, we launch around 8am as we need to inflate boards. So hang out for 30 min and then catch up which isn’t too hard on these ponds. - Life jacket as this is required. Wind can come up unexpectedly and you can be knocked off your board. I do have 3 extras, so let me know if you need one....
- Whistle is recommend and required at some sites. I have extra whistles to give out.
- If you have a SUP, I HIGHLY recommend having a leash on it. Especially if you aren't wearing your life jacket. Weather is unpredictable and an inflatable can literally blow away in 30+ mph winds. I have seen it!
- A sunglass neck strap, so your glasses don't sink if you slip and fall on a SUP.
- Other items--
· Snacks!
· Water as it can get hot!
· Sunscreen
· Towel in case you fall in the water (it happens)
· Swimsuit or whatever you don't care about getting wet
· Sandals, boat shoes, etc. are highly recommended as there are some rocks in the water and we will probably be beaching a couple times. When on the water, I take mine off and strap to my board.
· Camp chair or something to sit on
