Mt. St. Helens - Norway Pass {July}

Norway Pass is on a ridge which overlooks Mt. St. Helens and Spirit Lake. You can also see the following mountains: Rainier, Adams, and Mt. Hood (in Oregon).

Pass: NW Forest Pass (NOT the Discover pass)

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate

This is a fairly easy hike (4.5 miles round-trip with only 300 ft elevation gain).

Chuck's cell: [masked]

Chuck's car: Grey Land Rover LR4 (an SUV)

Note that we will split into two groups of 12. Chuck will lead the first group. 15 minutes later, David Turley will lead the second group. We have to do this so that we obey the group size limit of 12.

Since this is an easy hike, we may go another mile to Bear Pass for an even better view. We will go only if everybody in the group wants to do so.

My personal life has *FINALLY* calmed down. Now I am catching up on my photo backlog. I am really sorry for the delay.

I checked into this..here is what I found: the elevation gain in the FIRST MILE is 900 ft, so yes it was more than advertised. WTA advertises it being 300 ft but that is incorrect. I have sent a memo to them regarding this and i've updated the next 2 Norway Pass trips to reflect this.

Glorious views. Interesting people. But I think the elevation was more than posted. Would definitely attend again.

Did anyone else get eaten by the bugs? I have itchy bites all over my legs, arms and back. Next time I will have mosquito netting or a mosquito shirt like Lisa. :)

Very nice hike. It was amazing to see blown down trees a ridge and canyon out of view of the mountain. That was quite a shock wave that rolled through the valleys.
Can anyone post a group photo? I did not take one myself.

I haven't had a chance to post the two group photos I took. That's a consequence of leading two hikes in one weekend. :)

This was a great hike! With great people (as always). It was a bit warm on the side of the hill in the direct sun w no shade. Wish I'd worn sunscreen!

Great views of Adams, Rainier, Hood and esp. St. Helens and Sprit lake. Amazing after 33 years the amount of vegetation and wildlife has come back.

This will my first meetup, not just with this group, but ever! I don't really know what to expect, but I really like hiking and haven't been since my best hiking buddy moved away about a year ago.

I think you'll like it. We're a friendly group. Also, I set a fairly slow pace, so that everybody has time to enjoy the view, and take lots of pictures.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
