Mt. Ellinor

Mt. Ellinor is in the Olympics above Lake Cushman. Hike is only about 4 miles one way but STEEP and not appropriate for beginners. 4.5 out of 5.0 difficulty. Seeing mountain goats is a possibility. Never attempt to feed them. If in the trail either hold your ground or retreat slowly. We had a fatality a couple of years ago. If you sign up, you need to be in very good physical condition. Please don't sign up unless you are 100% sure you are going to go. There may be a waiting list and if you don't show someone else can't go. I am only taking 2 passengers besides myself, plus Roxie. Little further to go so $20 gas money/person. No meeting time, but a firm departure time of 8:00AM. Meet at the R-512/ South Tacoma Way Park and Ride. I will be in the McDonald's parking lot next to McDonald's with a silver Chev Tahoe. Weather looks good at this moment. Bad weather will cancel Friday evening. Check your emails. Lee

Craig, Looked for you on the mountain but I guess we didn't match up. After only a couple 100 yards we were above all the clouds and enjoyed the top just the two of us. Really started socking in on the way down which made all the rocks very slippery so we took it a little slow. Treated myself in Hoodsport to ice cream. Had to put back some of the calories I uses. Roxie per usual put in double miles running back and forth.

Wish I could join you, but I'm leading the hike to Pinnacle Peak Saddle tomorrow. Have fun, enjoy the great view, and enjoy the mountain goats!

Hey Lee....I'm possibly (If I can get my ass out of bed in the morning!) do a crazy double hike tomorrow, the 7th. Start at big creek trailhead at 6am and summit mt ellinor. Then back to the car, where I'll resupply, change and drive over to go climb mt rose. I'm looking at 13 mi and 5200 vrt for ellinor and another 7 mi and 3500 vrt for rose. I know its psychotic, but I wanna prove that I can do them both in a day!! Mabye I'll run into you out there!!
