Greetings Trailsiders, Fellow Hikers, Friends and Acquaintances!
Yes, you read the subject header right--change will be coming to Trailside next year. It is something necessary. It is healthy. It is also an opportunity for others to initiate and participate. Opportunities abound!
Many of you know that Trailside has existed for nearly 10 years, pre-dating Meetup! I'm personally going to celebrate by taking a break and turning hike leadership over to Assistant/Event Organizers. I am NOT abandoning Trailside, just giving myself some space and to catch up on a few things i've let go by the wayside (in the past couple of years especially).
2013 will be filled with even more exciting outdoor opportunities facilitated by some of the same people who have already been helping lead events. Of course, YOUR ideas for hiking and outdoor activities are both welcome and appreciated! ANYONE in the group has the ability to SUGGEST an event/hike and lead it. I'd like to continue to have plenty of options available to all members. So please get involved. If you are interested in helping to lead an event, I will STILL be available to guide you through the process. I will continue to recruit new Assistant and Event Organizers. I will also continue to monitor, edit and update the website. (I may even appear as a GUEST on a hike or two!)
Just so you know, the website and membership will continue to operate as it usually does!
We will redouble our effort to maintain our organizational integrity as an outdoor recreation group, and renew our focus on founding principles (please read our mission statements).
We will celebrate 10 FUN YEARS at this summer's Trailside Community Picnic! Look for wonderful surprises and other anniversary plans to appear as that approaches!
Again, anyone has the ability to SUGGEST a meetup activity. Please note that whoever makes a suggestion must also host the activity, unless an Assistant Organizer steps in to host/lead it. Otherwise it will remain a suggested activity until it is picked up by a willing host/leader and scheduled.
Thanks everyone for your encouragement, willingness to move forward, embracing new and exciting things, having fascination with nature and it's surprises, sharing of your time, energy and extending a helping hand, for our volunteers, assistants, and your ideas, and so much more! This group never ceases to amaze me!
Cordially and every thankful,
Mike Trygstad|Trailside Coordinator
