As promised, here are the details of the next meetup featuring Dr. Siobhan O'Flynn presenting Transmedia 101, which will take place at INTERACCESS. (http://www.interaccess.org/)
In the preceding Transmedia Toronto news email, I noted that this workshop would be great for the transmedia curious, but it would also be of use to seasoned media-professionals.
Cover charge: $5 at the door (cash only) to cover speaker honorarium and expenses.
About the workshop:
This workshop is targeted to Canadian content producers (film/tv/web - fiction/documentary) and will outline strategies for working with rich media/transmedia content in a simple, doable, and budget friendly way.
In this compact workshop, we will:
define transmedia storytelling & world building & how & why these can support branding examine recent case studies of transmedia storytelling & model possible roll-out strategies explore multi-screens, new platforms, apps & games, & discuss when & how to use them consider how to use social media to your advantage look to successful & innovative ways of creating additional revenue streams
About Dr. Siobhan O'Flynn:
Dr. Siobhan O’Flynn advises on interactive storytelling, social media strategies, and the
design of convergent, multiplatform and transmedia narratives.
In her position as Faculty Mentor in Digital Storytelling & Transmedia Design at the CFC Media Lab, she has worked with many of Canada’s leading digital creatives, and has advised on over 70 projects including screen-based works, in situ & social media installations, online social networking initiatives, cross-platform projects, interactive short films, ARGs and interactive graphic novels. In 2006/07 she was the interactive story editor on Late Fragment, a feature film/dvd a CFC/NFB co-production that screened at Cannes in 2008 as part of the Future of Cinema Salon.
O’Flynn has mentored for the Digital Development Lab (CBC/BC Film/New Media BC) 2008 and 2009, and Melting Silos 2009 and 2010 (NFB/SFU Praxis), and given numerous workshops on digital storytelling for a variety of audiences (traditional to digital). She is also the Canadian representative of Storylabs, an international network of transmedia experts. Her talks in the past year have addressed strategies for trans/crossmedia development, digital storytelling, and disruptive innovations in a digital world, amongst other subjects. This past year’s talks have addressed strategies for data visualization as interactive documentary with collaborator, Faisal Anwar, trans/ crossmedia development, digital storytelling, & disruptive innovations in a digital world, amongst other topics. She has just returned from the Auckland’s Documentary Edge Fest where she gave a talk on transmedia documentaries and a master class on Transmedia 101. Upcoming, she is participating as a Decision Maker in the Sheffield Doc/Fest, June 2012.
