Bike Hack Night II

Details

For our second Bike Hack Night, we're going to look at both software and hardware projects. Doors open at 6:00 with pizza and drinks, and the presentations start at 6:30. As a bonus, the #FitArlington "blender bike" will be making delicious smoothies from 6:00 to 6:30.

Because we want as many people as we can fit to join us, the room will be configured without the normal tables, and the back part of the room will be for those standing.

Our two lead speakers are both from New York City:

• Ted Ullrich (http://tedullrich.com/) of Tomorrow Lab (http://tomorrow-lab.com/) in New York City will show us the WayCount (http://waycount.com/) device, which can be used to crowdsource bike traffic count data.

• Patrick Hoffman (https://twitter.com/arcktip) of SocialBicycles (http://socialbicycles.com/) will talk about their model of dockless bikesharing.

And we have a great lineup of locals who'll be giving lightning talks on bikes + technology:

• Betsy Emmons will show her animated MapStory (http://mapstory.org/maps/1736/) on the history of bike lanes in DC.

• Shane Farthing of WABA will demo their mobile app (http://www.waba.org/mobile-app/).

• BikeArlington (http://www.bikearlington.com/) will show us their upcoming app for creating a crowd-sourced map of bike racks.

• Reg Viray from the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (https://www.vtti.vt.edu/) will talk about bicycles and the future of connected vehicles.

• Patrick Madden from WAMU will talk about his "stolen bike data project."

• Darren Buck (https://twitter.com/bikepedantic) will show us data from DDOT (http://ddot.dc.gov/)'s new bike counter on the Metropolitan Branch Trail.

Please note the entrance to Mobility Lab is on Oak St, around the corner from Wilson Blvd (and just a few blocks up the Hill from the Rosslyn Metro).
