The Bartered Bride by Bedrich Smetana (1824 - 1888)
Details
Arrive: 1:45 - 2:00
Comic opera.
Lucia Popp and Sigfried Jerusalem have a chemistry that is endearing in this 1982 production. The Otto Schenk design is dated but it's a highly reviewed and thoroughly entertaining presentation chock full of wonderful melodies, and orchestration. The Vienna State Opera is conducted by a very young Adam Fisher. First performed in 1866. Its famous overture (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZRahxqOjaE) is often performed separately in concert halls. Smetana makes liberal use of folk dances.
