Some people have never held a shotgun, or are even afraid of holding a shotgun. We want to allow those members that might be interested in learning more about shotguns a chance to do so. Gun safety is always the most important part of handling a shotgun. This project will safely introduce people to how to use a shotgun, and maybe peak their interest in skeet/trap shooting. We are not trying to promote gun usage, just a respect and understanding for guns. Some may find that skeet/trap shooting is a sport of interest for them, and some may realize they prefer to stay away from guns.
Education and self awareness of guns and gun safety are the primary goals of this project.
We will be heading to Shane’s Sporting Clays for our experience (30 mins east of downtown Winston-Salem). We will do a morning shoot to avoid the summer heat. Half Course packages are $37.50 with shotgun rental (or $24 if you bring your own). Ammunition is not included and can be purchased at the range (approximate cost is $16 for the 2 boxes you will need for the half course).
Trap shooting is one of the three major forms of competitive clay pigeon shooting (shotgun shooting at clay targets). The others are Skeet shooting and sporting clays.
The Half Course Sporting Package gives you 50 targets on our 7 station course. This is a great package for anyone wanting to enjoy the challenge of various shooting positions and target approaches but might not want to jump in to the complete course.
For those that want to carpool, we will meet at 9:00am at the Jaycees Office (223 N. Spring St., Unit A · Winston-Salem, NC 27101).
Or, you can meet us at the range at 9:45am.
If some members choose to bring their own weapons, they will be at liberty to decide who is allowed to shoot their weapons & use their ammunition. Anyone who uses their ammunition will also give them some money to help cover the costs. All state and federal firearm laws must be complied with and we will have members sign a release of liability to the Jaycees when attending.
