Cary Brigade: July Meetup

Hello Hackers!

This meeting will be a checkpoint where we will collaborate on the results of three sub-group meetings.

Data Scrubbing - getting a snapshot of 2013 permit data we can work with
Back-end system - find a way to host the data
User Interface - presenting the data to the users

We'll collaborate on where we are with these tasks with the intent being that we'll plan to make a prototype on making the dataset viewable on a map.  This is subject to changed based on the sub-groups meeting and what the outcomes are there.

Light Refreshments will be provided - bring your computing platform.

Thanks to the Technology Tank for getting this facility again for our meeting!

Not directly related to permit issue, but is Code for America related: Scott Phillips of Code for Tulsa tells about an awesome hack to modernize the Tulsa Fire Department with a $35 raspberry pi.

That is awesome! So much better when a project like this can intercept that $500,000 bureaucratic upgrade so geeks don't have to read the previous year's budget and gripe, "I could have done that for $35."

    Agenda for tonight:
    1. Back End. We have a Socrata Community Data Platform at
    https://communities.socrata.com/catalog/code-for-cary/
Once we have a data set we can upload it and create an API for the app. (Thank you Reid Serozi)

    2. Data Set. The property file has been geo-located. Do we have a data set or should we have a discussion of what to include in the data set.

    3. Front End - Discussion and decision about what development platform we should use.

    4. Progress / presentations of what people are working on, etc. Developers and Designers (if not covered above)

    5. Recap of what is going on in the Regional CfA, CityCamp, DataJam, Triangle Startup Weekend, etc...
