Learn About Graphite

Details

This month we're happy to have Glenn from Interactive Intelligence talk to us about Graphite. A large part of DevOps is understanding what is happening with your systems so that you can react appropriately when things change (and so you know when something changes). It's all about tighter feedback loops. Graphite has become the go to choice for graphing what's happening in production systems. While Graphite isn't difficult to setup and start using, it still takes thought and consideration to make sure you're collecting useful information. Glenn is going to walk us through using Graphite and the addons that have been developed to make it even easier to use.

Glenn's description of his talk:

Graphite is an open source tool for collecting and analyzing time series data. At Interactive Intelligence we follow the mantra of 'Collect Everything.' This data is can prove useful for problem determination, root cause analysis, identifying performance bottlenecks, postmortems, and reporting on customer usage data and trends. Graphite has a simple socket based interface for accepting new data and unlike other tools (like Cacti) does not require central configuration to add new metrics. The community around Graphite continues to grow and as a result there are lots of open source products that have been built to simplify the process of integrating Graphite into your software and infrastructure stack. We'll be covering a few of these tools as well.

About Glenn:

Glenn is a operations engineer at Interactive Intelligence, where his primary focus is managing, maintaining and improving the infrastructure for a SAAS based call center platform hosted in AWS.

This month we're at a new location, Interactive Intelligence. It's in Durham, not too far away from Mez the Mexican restaurant, if you know where that is. Interactive Intelligence's address is:

4307 Emperor Blvd.Durham, NC 27703

There will be someone at the door to let people in, but should you arrive late enough that there isn't anyone there, you can text/call (919) 649-8587 for someone to come let you in.

Looking forward to another great meetup. Thanks for coming out and making these events great.
