Discover Meteor (with others!)

The Triangle joins the ranks of many cities discovering Meteor.

Mark Shropshire @shrop and Michael Silverman will be our code astronomers. Here are notes to the talk Mark gave in Charlotte: https://gist.github.com/shrop/8134391. We will enjoy a solid intro to Meteor philosophy and usage, followed by a demo of a working Meteor app!

We're also making this meetup the official kickoff for the new Raleigh/Durham Meteor Group.

Bring your laptops! It's going to be a wild galactic ride!

Also, Nick Jordan and Smashing Boxes will be sponsoring the meetup. They'll be providing food and drinks so come hungry.

Hey guys, glad I could help out and host at Teradata. If you have any questions let me know, I'll have signs posted downstairs and in the lobby on the 3rd floor. Look forward to seeing everyone.

As Meteor is an "isomorphic JavaScript" solution (see http://venturebeat.com/2013/11/08/the-future-of-web-apps-is-ready-isomorphic-javascript ) some may be interested in tomorrow's O'Reilly webcast on this topic: "In Pursuit of the Holy Grail: Building Isomorphic JavaScript Apps"

Perhaps someone could do a hangout on air?? Anyone?

Robert we are also starting a Meteor group in Raleigh. This specific event is an introduction to Meteor but we will have on-going Meteor events starting in March.

https://www.meteor.com/gallery Meteor launched a gallery of apps. Quite interesting to peruse. Keepin the hype high! Hope you're pumped up too. :)

Update! Perhaps not by coincidence, and entirely new meetup group has just formed in Raleigh/Durham specifically for Meteor. I hope that they know about this meetup because it would be a great way to kick it off! :) http://www.meetup.com/Meteor-Raleigh-Durham/

I’ll see your $0.02 and add to it. Mark your idea sounds great. I think the goal of this event is to get people interested and excited about Meteor. How about setting a time and do a Google Chat so we can discuss in more detail?

    • Mark S.

Sounds good! I will message you on your meetup page.

Hey, I recently relocated to Raleigh from Ohio. I've never worked with meteor, but a friend recommend I check it out, since I'm a JS developer. I hope that's alright. I'll definitely check it out before the event.

No, but at meetups I make buddies. ;)

I started dabbling with Meteor in December using the Discover Meteor book.

It'd be great if you'd bring the book. I think many of us like to browse books before we buy.

I like this idea. It might be cool to find someone who has a good grasp, have them show people the ropes and then turn the group loose to try and build something.
