Ever heard the story about the tortoise and the hare?
There once was a speedy hare who bragged about how fast he could run. Tired of hearing him boast, Slow and Steady, the tortoise, challenged him to a race. All the animals in the forest gathered to watch.
Hare sprinted down the road for a while and then and paused to rest. He looked back at Slow and Steady and cried out, "How do you expect to win this race when you are run/walking along at your slow, slow pace?" Hare stretched himself out alongside the road and fell asleep, thinking, "There is plenty of time to relax."
Slow and Steady run/walked and run/walked. He never, ever stopped until he came to the finish line. The animals who were watching cheered so loudly for Tortoise, they woke up Hare. Hare stretched and yawned and began to run again, but it was too late. Tortoise was over the line.
After that, Hare always reminded himself, "Don't brag about your lightning pace, for Slow and Steady won the race!"
What is this group all about?
This group is intended to be a fun and social experience for all those runners and run/walkers that just want to get out there meet some people and do the best they can at their own pace. So if you've ever felt a little intimidated by those other running groups that list the "slow" group at 7-9 minute miles then this is the group for you!
Our plan is to have many Event Organizers help schedule several runs a week - some in the mornings, some in the evenings with varying distances. We hope that the locations will vary in an effort to make it convenient for all those that live in and around the Triangle. You will find our weekend walks / runs to be longer for those that are training for longer distances!
This group is flexible -- if you want to walk or run whether its slow or fast, short or long, you can! Oh - and I almost forgot the best part -- this group is FREE!! no dues, and no meetup fees.
