New Meetup: No 1 Panda House (Authentic Shanghainese)

Announcing a new Meetup for The Triangle Area Chinese Language Meetup Group!

What: No 1 Panda House (Authentic Shanghainese Food)

When: February 8,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: Restaurant recommended by Thomas, Chris and Tom+Amy. This is a very authentic Shanghainese restaurant, and it IS the chef from Shanghai Ren Jia (very famous restaurant chain in Shanghai). They haven't got a chance to take the sign down, No. 1 Panda House has nothing to do with this restaurant but we will use it for directions.

The restaurant is offering 10% discount during spring festival, however, they offered us a free desert called jiu3 niang4 yuan4 zi (this is very traditional sweet rice balls cooked in home-made fermented sweet rice soup, really delicious!) because Feb 8th is the Lantern Festival, and it will actually work out better than 10% if we have a good size group of people. On Sunday, they will have dim sum, we can order everything there. However, there are couple of dishes that need to be ordered at least one day ahead due to the preparation time. Couple of options I thought were pretty authentic and we could pre-order are:

ba1 bao3 ya1 (duck braised with eight treasures) $35
qi1 cai3 lu2 yu2 si1 (seven-color braised Perch) $25 - see picture!
zou3 rou4 yuan2 ti2 (braised ham) $19

Depending on how many people RSVP, I would like to pre-order 1 or 2 of the dishes, maybe 3 if we have 15+ people. Send me an email if you want to pre-order other stuff - they also have long2 xia1 qiu2 (lobster balls), Vancouver Crab, etc.

After lunch, members who plan on going to the CAFA Chinese New Year Gala (3pm at UNC Memorial Hall) can drive there directly.
