Swim, bike, run - Sunday tri training at John U Lloyd park

Note: If there are less than 5 RSVPs on the evening before the meetup then the host *might* decide to cancel. In that case you will be notified by email. Please check the Meetup page and your email for any updates. Please RSVP if you plan to attend. Please change your RSVP if you can't make it.

The park opens at 8:00 AM and there is often a long line of cars. Please be in line at 8 AM so you're in the parking lot and ready to go at 8:15. Park entrance fee is $4 for a single occupant vehicle. It's $2 for extra passengers, pedestrians, bicyclists. They accept only cash. Annual passes are available for $65.

We'll swim about 0.25 miles in the ocean, bike 9 miles through the park, then run 1.7 to 4.5 miles (more details below).

Everyone goes at their own pace and can tailor the course according to their abilities. Between each leg we gather in the parking lot again and wait for everyone to finish before we go on to the next discipline.

Directions:
If you don't know where John U Lloyd Park is please have a look at the map. You can click on the location above to get to one.

After you enter John U Lloyd park drive all the way to the end until you get to the last parking lot (about 2.5 miles). We'll meet at the last pavilion (called Jetty Pavilion). Park entrance fee is $4. They accept only cash.

Swim:
The swim is parallel to the beach for 200 m then back. You can turn around earlier or walk back if you can't do the full 400 m swim. The water is very flat here. If you're not a good swimmer please keep closer to the beach so that you can stand up if needed. There are no lifeguards on duty. Although we watch out for each other you're ultimately responsible for yourself and swim at your own risk. If water conditions don't allow us to swim (too cold, riptides etc.) then we substitute the swim with a 1.5 mile warm-up run.

Bike:
The bike ride is 2 loops of 4.5 miles each on the road that runs through the park (normal pavement). Do just one loop if you want to.

Run:
For the run we have 4 alternative routes: a beach run of 1.7 miles (on the sand), a street run of 3 miles, a street run of 4.5 miles, or a trail run of 4.4 miles. We'll discuss who wants to do which run and then split up into groups if needed.

    Anyone bringing a wet suit? I have a 3/2 mm dive suit and a 3 mm shorty. Not really a tri suit, but will they work?

      With the wind and water temps forecast to be in the mid- to upper 70s a wetsuit might not be needed. I don't think a dive would work and I am not familiar with a shorty, but you are welcome to bring one or both in case.
