Meet with the Monk to learn the history, traditions and practices of Buddhism. Focus will be on Theravada but all traditions will be discussed as fully as the group desires. The primary teacher was born in Thailand and has been a monk for 25 years and now resides in Tucson. Guest speakers will be sought from other traditions and experiences. The idea is to give lay people an opportunity to learn and discuss Buddhism regularly and directly with a monk who has spent a lifetime training as a practitioner and a teacher. No need to call yourself a Buddhist. Just explore a new world or reacquaint yourself with an old friend. Plenty time to meditate and cogitate.
Emphasis should be on introducing anyone interested to the subject. This is not advanced studies. It is suppose to be educational and fun.
We would like to thank the artist Sherab Khandro for permitting us to use her Buddha sculpture for our group photo. A former Buddhist nun now living in Sedona AZ she can be seen at http://www.sherabkhandro.com/
The photo of organizer Arjahn the Monk and ass't. organizer Ken, was taken on top of Blacketts Ridge which the two hike regularly. Hikers with interest in Buddhism may wish to join us sometime. It is a strenuous trail though.
