New Meetup: Fishing Basics Workshop Q&A and Practice/ Shore Fishing- Hyland Park- Reschedule

From: Chris B.

Announcing a new Meetup for TC Fishing Fanatics!

What: Fishing Basics Workshop Q&A and Practice/ Shore Fishing- Hyland Park

When: Sunday, August 8,[masked]:00 PM

10145 Bush Lake Road
Bloomington, MN 55438

Rescheduled due to sick for today-

As with last time, we will meet at the large open picnic area behind the main building. I will secure a spot at one of the picnic tables. This is where I will teach the class and answer any questions people may have. After I have gone through everything and people have had a chance to practice and ask questions, we can head down to the lake and try fishing from shore for panfish and bass.

The class will start at 4. If you get there late and miss anything I will be happy to do a recap for you while people are practicing.

Topics and things that I will cover in this session:

-Rigging rods and tying knots

-Casting: both spincasting (closed face) and spinning (open face) reels

-Baiting hooks: will start with practicing with plastic baits in place of live bait on shore

-Spooling new line onto reels (Again both spinning and spincasting reels) and how to tell if the line is frayed and needs to be replaced.

-Describing what line weight and Rod action means and how to pick the right rod and line for what you want to fish for.

-Tips for buying your own equipment.

-How to use and rig a bobber-livebait rig

-How to fish a bottom live bait rig and tell when a fish is biting and when to set the hook (Very useful for the St Croix Night fishing and other river events)

-Adjusting the drag on the reel

-Setting the hook and playing a fish

-Cover basics of different types of lures and what they are used for along with basic retrieves (if we have time and people are confident enough- will likely happen on the lake after the official session)

For those who just want to come and fish and socalize, the actual class should be wrapping up around 6, and for those who want to stick around and practice fishing after the workshop is over.
