Hadoop in High-Tech Manufacturing

Abstract: In this talk, Sthitie Bom will describe several use cases that leverage big data technology in Seagate’s disk head manufacturing facility. She will describe problems such as drift detection and predictive maintenance, how they were handled in the past, and the opportunities for improvement and business impact opened up by the big data ecosystem. Technologies used in these use cases include Hadoop with sensor and image input leveraging Impala, and SparkR.

Speaker: Sthitie Bom is a Managing Principal Engineer in the Data Analytics & Reporting Systems group at Seagate Technology in Edina, MN. She has 13 years of experience in business intelligence and data analytics in high-tech manufacturing, focused primarily on the design and development of technologies to support decision making.
