My Meetup is not the “This Land is Your Land” Meetup any more.  I can tell you why if you contact me.

I am steel guitar player.  I need to play more.  You can come over my house to start out.  I have a piano.  We can change it later to another place in the Montclair vicinity.  I'm interested in the American songbook, especially country, blues, and light jazz.  I'm an intermediate player, so too many changes kill me.  Whether I work with a vocalist or without a vocalist doesn't matter.

The format/goal of the Meetup is:  at each meeting, we'll pick two songs and work on them as long as we want to.  Before we disband we make live audio recordings of the tunes as we've arranged and practiced them.  This accomplishes getting us all good practice with chord changes at a comfortable level of difficulty.  Also, it serves as a record of our best musical efforts; each member can then use the recordings to promote themselves on line, etc.

The membership in the group can be stable or revolving.  It doesn't matter to me.  For each Meetup, anyone can sign up or not, as suits them.

When I get a few people together, sufficient to play, I will schedule the Meetup.  I propose a maximum of 5 or 6, enough for a rhythm section and a few soloists.

The group composition and signup will be based on instrumentation.  For example, if I already have a bass player I won’t get another bass player.

For now I propose to meet on Sunday morning at 11 AM at my house.  I plan a maximum of two hours on the meeting.  I will shoot for 2 meetings per month.

To create a paper trail I'm going to take reservations via Meetup.  So for anybody (who I don't already know) who is reserving a spot in the group, I will ask $10 in advance.  I will only use this money to pay the administrative fee from Meetup and/or to buy refreshments for the jam.

I will keep my books open and I will pay the Meetup monthly fee out of whatever "income" is available to the group.  If you reserve and the group doesn't get scheduled in sufficient promptness, I will refund your money if you wish.

I won't take any of your money without your consent.  Even if you don't want to pay the Meetup fee, the only purpose of the credit card payment, is for my security.

Please contact me if you have further questions or want samples of my playing.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
