Welcome to the Gastroparesis And Type1 Diabetes Exchange :)

Hi Everyone,

I have recently formed a local support group for Type 1 Diabetic adults or those with the condition Gastroparesis in Union City for the San Francisco Bay area East Bay and surrounding areas.
**Anyone not located in this area can still participate in the group through the group Message Board.**

You can have either condition alone; and caregivers, family, friends, and other supporters and advocates are welcome to join as well. Some members just have Type 1 Diabetes and some just have Gastroparesis. A few members have both conditions, (myself included).

Diabetes is a leading cause of Gastroparesis, which is one of the reasons I thought it would be of mutual benefit to combine these two interests into one support group.

I have had type 1 diabetes for 11 years and gastroparesis for about 7 years, and have not found many support groups for type 1 diabetics, and none for those with gastroparesis that are nearby. I thought that it would be a great idea to start my own support group for people with either of these conditions if there was enough interest out there.

This is a support and activities group for people with similar conditions to interact, network, participate in discussions, ask questions, share experiences, or to vent frustrations. I will also have guest speakers periodically.

Ideally, I would love to have all our members be able to see each other at our monthly meetings, but if this isn't an option due to distance or illness, you are still welcome to join as a member and participate in discussions, questions, or just interact with the other group members by way of the group messageboard discussion forum or email. It's a great way to connect with others going through the same thing.

This is a new group that will meet in Union City on the third Sunday of each month. Please check our Calender for upcoming G.A.T.E. meetings and Events.

Future plans for the meet-up group include:

-To provide relevant guest speakers, such as health specialists, diabetes educators/nutritionists, and others with diabetes or gastroparesis-related backgrounds or interests, to share important information with the support group.

-To provide gastroparesis and Type 1 diabetes-related outreach connections to the local community.
