Mobile Augmented Reality - UX Breakfast Club

The UX Breakfast Club, sponsored by The Los Angeles User Experience Meetup group and Vitamin T, provides a setting to discuss topics related to User Experience or emerging issues in the field that may be impacting the discipline.

The UX Breakfast Club will meet on Saturday, July 21st at 9:00 AM at Cafe Laurent in Culver City.  The event is free. You will notice that you are required to place a deposit when you submit your RSVP.  Your money will be refunded if you attend.  This allows us to provide a precise reservation to Cafe Laurent.

Please review the menu and make your selection before coming to Cafe Laurent. This will help save time so the event can begin promptly. Be sure to stay focused on the conversation topic during the gathering.

Only those with an "attending" RSVP status may join the event. If you are interested in the gathering and it's full, please join the waiting list. Spots often become available at the last minute.

It was really nice to have a chance to talk to Brian.
For the feature meetings I would also have chance to talk to other guests listen their opinions about the topic.

I will start by saying thank you to Robin from VitaminT/ Aquent for the breakfast! I was at Mr. Selzer's table so I would like to thank him next and of course all of the other AR experts that came out. At my table we talked about one video in particular from Japan, which you can see here: http://bit.ly/RIBqi7 . Also, for those with the time and inclination, Coursera is offering a free course on a related topic (http://bit.ly/J2fjQV). Lastly, thanks to Crystal and Alex for putting this together!

It was great to learn in depth from industry insiders where this field is at the moment.

Hi Folks, it would be great if you could bring a camera and your business cards with you.

Hi Folks, I can't wait to see you tomorrow at 9AM. Be sure to look at the menu in advance so we can quickly place our orders. Also, the gathering lasts about 2 hours. As for the conversations at the table, be sure to stick to the topic. It's quite tempting to go off on a tangent. We are very lucky to have Gaia Dempsey, Brian Mullins, Brian Selzer and Matthew Szymczyk joining us. Let's use their time wisely. See you there!

Please note that Peter Boutros of Total Immersion will not be joining us. There was a last-minute change in his plans.

How is augmented reality relevant to solving problems? That is the main question I am coming with....and that video is incredible!

Here is another question for our speakers: What does a UX designer need to know about Augmented Reality?

    June 21, 2012

  • A former member

Question: Is it possible to layer different AR triggers into the same single UX, to ensure that at least one of them will work as planned? Is this kind of redundancy necessary, or a luxury, with current AR builds?

Question: What are these developers' favorite AR applications out there on the market currently? What are their favorite ones in the pipeline?

Question: besides the camera, GPS, and accelerometer, what sensors and/or data are these developers utilizing to build better interactions with AR? what sensors would they LIKE to have access to, or are there sensors that SHOULD be added to a device, to make AR more interesting or engaging?
