UX Design Inspiration - Design for Mindfulness Workshop
Details
Designers, Developers, and PMs - This 2 hour hands-on workshop is all about collaborating as a group to play and come up with some ideas on how to create mindful experiences - and make the distinction between what the user wants vs what they actually need. You and your team members will be coming up with ways to add mindfulness to any experiences of your choosing. The idea is to dream up ways in which you can leverage emotional intelligence and situational awareness to create some enriching user experiences.
Why this meetup - You choose to be at a meetup, and not watch a YouTube video (http://bit.ly/uxdplaylist) or take a Udacity class (http://bit.ly/uxdclass) at home, to actually connect, interact, and communicate with other humans... and I've designed this meetup for you to have meaningful interactions with other people. With the guided networking session (15 min) and the workshop format (1h 20 min), you will meet and have meaningful interactions with at least 4-6 new people at this meetup. You can find friends, or collaborators for your next project, or simply get inspired by what amazingness happens when play & community is unlocked in people. With the community share & ask session (15 mins) you can ask the community for what you need - a job, an internship, if you have a job to offer, or need a mentor, or want to be a mentor, etc. After all, in life, if we don't ask, we don't get.
Here's the agenda for the 2 hours that we will have:
- Guided networking session (15 mins)
- Short talk on design patterns for mindfulness (10 mins)
- Hands on workshop - Group activity involving developers + designers + PMs to create amazing experiences (1hr 20mins)
- Community shares and asks (15 mins)
Here's a detailed breakdown of the workshop:
30 mins:
- Collaborate with your team (groups of up to 4 people) to come up with a problem related to mindfulness
- Can not work individually
10 mins:
- Share the problem ideas with the entire meetup
- We will vote on a problem we all (all teams) want to work on
30 mins:
- Design flows and wireframes for the problem we are solving with your team (with your team)
10 mins:
- Every team has 2 min to present their idea to the entire group
Food: We will NOT be providing any food. So please either eat before you get here, or we usually get dinner at a nearby restaurant after the meetup (8.15-8:30pm).
We look forward to seeing you on at Luxe in San Francisco.
NOTE - We started this Google Doc for the community to share their needs (internships needed, jobs available, etc) here (https://docs.google.com/document/d/15OGkqFd9dFXQSdGbT0xwsgWYsUqXoUJbI7Nnlxw-gXw/edit#). If there is more interest in this, we will formalize this process. This is just a prototype. And I will email this document out to the mailing list for the entire group.
