Thanks to the help and support of each one of you, UHA's Glamour Shot Days at the Baldwin Park Shelter have become very successful and life-saving days. To accomodate our growing program, we are revamping our volunteer orientation process. As part of this, we need everyone who would like to work hands-on with the shelter's dogs on Glamour Shot Days to become an official shelter volunteer and go through the county orientation process.
This orientation is a two-step process: an introduction to county policies and procedures and one morning (offered seven days a week, signed up for in advance) doing hands-on training with a Baldwin Park Shelter kennel attendant. After completing this orientation, you'll be qualified for your red shirt, kennel key privledges, and some medical insurance coverage for any unforseen accidents while working with shelter animals.
Our first orientation, which Holly and I will lead, will be offered Sunday, December 4 from 10 am - 1 pm at the Baldwin Park Shelter. I hope that all of our regular volunteers who have not yet gone through the county orientation will be able to attend.
What to bring:
1. Please visit http://animalcare.lacounty.gov/cms1_154725.pdf, print a volunteer application, and fill it out. Note: Please DO NOT submit the form electronically. Bring a hard copy with you to the orientation instead.
2. Please bring the following documents and copies of the following documents: 1. A US Passport (preferred) or 2. A Driver's License and a US Social Security card. (If you are not able to provide copies of these documents, please email Holly or myself for a complete list of documents accepted by the county.)
What to wear:
Please wear "shelter casual" attire: close-toed shoes, long pants, and a tshirt or sweatshirt.
To RSVP (which I hope you will), please email [address removed].
If you haven't yet attended a Glamour Shot Day but would like to come check it out before comitting to the orientation, you are welcome to attend an upcoming Glamour Shot Day and shadow an experienced volunteer. For more details about a shadowing day, please email me at [address removed].
On behalf of the dogs (and now cats!) at Baldwin Park, thank you for your support.
