Rachel Andrew presents...

Web Standards - what are they and why do they matter today?

Rachel Andrew started building websites in 1996. All she needed to learn was a few HTML tags. She is still building websites sixteen years later, but things got pretty complicated between then and now. As a developer during the fabled "browser wars", Rachel remembers how ugly things get when browser vendors and developers alike don't follow open standards.

So what are these standards? Should we be concerned about them today as web designers and developers? Who is shaping the web today and how can we get involved?
