MOVED TO SUNDAY! Wheelmen Cup-RSVP to show interest

Chip from the Lehigh Wheelmen asked if we plan to participate in the Wheelmen Cup this year. He has suggested Saturday March 29th in Trexlertown (1 hr 20m). It is a fun day w 2 races where all abilities get a chance to help win the Cup which gets passed around between the clubs year to year. Upstate won it a few years back. (see photo in upper left) You get to be on a team time trial team (5 miles) and do a 30 mile race that is controlled for the first half allowing everyone to engage in the point sprints. Great opportunity to try racing and for everyone to ride as one team unit. He needs to reserve the race course (closed loop fitness park) by this Friday. Please RSVP if you want to participate. If I don't see at least 5 RSVP's I will have to cancel.

    Moved to Sunday due to weather! I will not be able to participate. Communicate via this page if you are still going and fro rides etc.
    Here is the letter from the host club...

    Please pass the word the Wheelmen Cup will be held on Sunday.
    That looks like the better of the two days. Hope we made the right call.
    We will not run the event in the RAIN!

    We will meet in the Bob Rodale Parking Lot 10am at roll over to the TTT course.
    5 man TTT NO AERO stuff! When your done you ride back to the park.

    The Pts Crit will start at 1pm

    We do need a release from every rider and $1.00 ins fee that is what the County wants to hold the event in the Fitness Park.

    Sallie can you help officiate the event? Glenn Davis and Roberta Kates are willing to help?

    Sallie can you send this to your list of LWA Racers? I might have missed a lwa rider.

    I will be departing from Sicklers Exeter at 7:30ish. Room for a a few in my van. [masked]
    Otherwise, We will meet in the parking lot for the Bob Rodale Fitness Park.(velodrome in trexlertown)
    Roll out about 10ish to ride over to the TTT course. The TTT is about 4.3 miles
    5 man teams. There will be a points crit. in the Fitness Park at 1:00pm
    30 laps sprints every three laps. Regroup for the first half then no regrouping after the sprints. ROAD BIKES ONLY!

    Prevent the biggest mistake of your season! If you were planning to try racing, start when everyone else starts. Don't wait to be "fit enough". There is a lot to learn from being in the peloton and this particular event is designed just for this purpose. Plus, we need you to help regain the trophy! (See club photo to you left.) PLEASE CLICK ATTENDING if attending and use this forum for any questions. Oh, and only road bikes are allowed. Sorry no TT bikes or aero bars. Level playing field and all. Fancy wheel are allowed.

    The "controlled half requires the field to regroup after each sprint. this is perfect for the varying levels of Spring fitness. The field rolls around for 2 laps and then the bell is rung for "1 lap to points". During that lap riders jockey and go for the 3 place sprint. Then they regroup and repeat. At 1/2 way there is a double points sprint and then the race is no longer controlled. It is inevitable that an attack goes right after the double point sprint. The sprint points continue every 3rd lap. If lapped you are allowed to jump back in but may not contest the next sprint. The Final Sprint is the most important! I believe places run 15 deep and the points are heavy! So, it is very important to Endure til the end even if you are not attached to the lead group. It is a great way to start the season and everyone has a good time.

    RSVP right away!
    The Wheelmen Cup has been around for about 25 years. This event is a friendly, by invitation only, club vs club event. It is the perfect "I want to try racing" event. Everyone is just starting to ride so don't worry about your fitness level. Just participate! There are 2 events. Team Time Trial and Points Race. A 5 mile Team Time Trial w up to 4 of your peers. It is an awesome, intense event. One you will likely remember for a long time. Points are given to the top 3 clubs w best times. Clubs can enter as many teams as they like but only one place is given to each club. How often do you get to compete in a team time trial? Very cool. Very fun.
    Then after a short rest, the mass start Points Race! The race stays controlled until the half way point. The Points Race is about 30 miles w point sprints every 3 laps and no real sharp turns as it is held in the cycling park across from the Velodrome this year.
