For the first Uptown Happenings Together (NYC) event we will be visiting, Laura R. Gadson, Harlem based artist and curator in her studio. Ms. Gadson is known for her work in the art of quilting and for coordinating events for fellow artists, and she makes a Harlem brownstone her studio and private gallery. After a studio open house, and viewing of Laura Gadson's, Shimoda's and others' work, kindly organized with our group in mind.... those who want to do so are welcome to join us for a stroll over to a favorite spot for a drink and further networking :)

[Note: Shimoda is a local Jewelry artist, and Laura and Shimoda both have work currently on display on the 125th Street Culture Banners! Support the artists exhibited, by considering making a purchase to add to your collection!!]

Small print-----> Don't forget to take care of your one-time Uptown Happenings Together (NYC) joining contribution of $5, so you really feel a part of things ;) Also consider making a small contribution to the organizer's collection for the Haiti earthquake Relief Effort, via Oxfam's Haiti Earthquake Response Fund, or make a direct contribution yourself to the fund here. Uptown Happenings Together (NYC)...... To stay in the neighborhood a little more, to slow down and engage a little more. To know a few new people who may be into some of the same things; and to get a little closer to the pulse of all that good energy we sometimes lose touch with, while going to and fro' and up and down at a dizzying pace just trying to live in this wonderful but often frenetic and decidedly hulking city.

Uptown Happenings Together was a great experience for me meeting with new individuals from the local area. Alba was an excellent hostess making everyone feel comfortable and part of the conversation. Alba has an extensive knowledge of Harlem's social venues and it translates well during the discussions and with her choice of Meet-up places. It was also a pleasure to be surrounded by a diverse mature insightful group of people who made me laugh and think. The meet-up experienced was also enhanced by the two places we patronized that set an ambiance complimentary to the company. Uptown Happenings Together is a true testament of how getting connected online can help nurture the interactive experience and develop relationships offline.

Thanks to Tameka, Angela, Sam, Barbara, Abby, Sergio, Anderson & to all the others we met at Laura Gadson's lovely Gallery, for attending our first event! Between the amazing artwork, great conversation with the artists, &then a fun gastronomic excursion to Yatenga (a winner!) around the corner, it was amazing! We loved Laura's, Shimoda's &the other artist's work & found them all to be really friendly, welcoming and interesting. Laura's space has a warm &lively atmosphere &was a great place for us to hang out while catching up with friends &getting acquainted with new people. We especially enjoyed sitting by Laura's little wood burning fireplace..and appreciated the snacks & hot mulled cider she made us! And it's a small world..We ran into Alexandria's college friend who said, "I've heard about these uptown groups & that red carnation thing!" Lots of love to Alexandria & D who, though you couldn't be there, were thought of! Hope to see you all at the Uptown gallery event on Sun. 3/7!!
