We are a safe "Read and Critique" venue for mid-level to professional writers. If you're interested in giving and receiving critique, engaging in the hard work to professionally develop your craft and learn by helping others develop their skills, then you're in the right place!
We encourage delicate and supportive feedback. We strive to support and uplift one another and not criticize or condemn in any way. We encourage writers to ask for the kind of oral critique that is needed: for substance, style, dialogue, tone, etc. For more on 'The Gentle Art of Critique,' please see our About page.
To join our group, please fill out the profile questions fully. Your answers will let us understand if you would be a good fit for us. You will be requested to submit a writing sample as well.
Members are encouraged to upload a file to the files section of this Meetup the Sunday before the meeting, and set visibility to: "Members Only." That will allow five days for reading work before the meeting on Friday. (NOTE: All work uploaded to this site is for private critiquing purposes only, and should not be construed as 'Publishing of the Work.' Documents s/b no larger than 10-12 pages, double spaced, and use 12 point font.)
Work can also be read aloud in the meeting, and critqiue offered on the spot.
Housekeeping: We meet in the upstairs community room at Lund's Uptown on Friday nights starting at 7:00 p.m, ending at 9:00. Lunds has requested that we not park in their parking lot, as they prefer to keep parking available for paying customers.
Welcome, and let us know if you have any questions or suggestions. Thank you!
Hi, Y'all:
Due to Turkey-Day, next Friday's meeting has been canceled in favor of the sin of gluttony. Our next meeting will be Friday, December 4th, at the home of Nick Pease: 6040 Logan Ave. South.
Please note: The meeting will run from 6:30 - 9:30, in order to accommodate the seven people who will have work up for critique at that time. Read more
