Hi everyone. Happy New Year! The Urban Homesteaders' League has lots of great events coming up!

This Saturday Charlotte Dion of Northshore Permaculture will be teaching a workshop on mending, reusing and re-purposing old clothing. This is a great opportunity to learn how to extend the life of your clothing and to reduce your consumption. You'll learn how to patch a hole, replace a button, overcome a broken zipper, secure a seam, and more using low cost tools and time-honored techniques--key urban homesteading skills!

Clothing Mending Workshop with Charlotte Dion
Saturday, Jan 9
Democracy Center, Harvard Square

Later in the month is a screening of the movie "HomeGrown," a portrait of the urban homesteading Dervaes family, sponsored by Slow Food Boston. The movie will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Jess Liborio, the urban grower at the Food Project?s Dorchester farm, Professor Nathan Phillips from BU's Dept of Geography & Environment, and me, Lisa Gross, artist and founder of the Urban Homesteaders' League.

At the end of the month we'll be co-sponsoring a bread baking workshop with Slow Food BU. Participants will get hands-on experience making both traditional sourdough bread and a variety of no-knead breads. The workshop will be taught by Charlotte Dion of Northshore Permaculture and myself. (If you are a member of Slow Food BU, DO NOT rsvp on the UHL page. Please talk with Dory--there will be a separate registration process for you guys.)
