Hi everyone. I hope you're enjoying this gorgeous spring weather!
Before I go ahead and describe the exciting events and opportunities ahead, I just want to clarify something about the operations of the group. A portion of the events listed at anytime are organized by members of the UHL (like the upcoming UHL Community Skillshare, the Earthworks bike ride, and the Canning Class). These are the events where we formally gather and where you can meet other members of the group. The rest of the events listed are organized by other groups and we don't formally "meet-up" there. But please feel free to contact some of the other folks who've rsvp-ed "yes" if you want to connect with some of the other members planning to attend.
Also, if you don't want to get as many automated emails from the group, try to rsvp for events. You'll only get emails about the ones for which you've rsvped "yes" or "maybe."
On to the calendar!
There are lots of great events coming up including our first UHL Community Skillshare! UHL members will be teaching skillshares on making cordials, kombucha, self-irrigating planters, how to convert your engine to run on vegetable oil, and how to be an evolutionary gardener. All this learning and sharing will be followed by socializing over homemade goodies (please bring something for the snack-luck table!). I'd like to aim to have one of these every other month, so let me know if you'd be interested in sharing at the next UHL Community Skillshare.
The UHL/Earthworks bike tour of urban orchards in bloom is also coming up. This will be a great opportunity to meet some other UHL folks and to learn where to pick free fruit this summer/fall.
And in response to the the overwhelming number of people who liked Donna's suggestion of teaching a canning class, she will be offering two from her home in JP. (They're both on weeknights because she's not in town on the weekends.)
Check out the rest of the upcoming events below, plus some exciting opportunities for urban homesteaders.
I hope to see you all at an event this spring. Happy Homesteading!
all the best,
