Just across the river from the UN, Hunter's Point South (in Long Island City) is one of NYC's most rapidly changing riverside landscapes. Come hear all about the sustainability aspects of the changes underfoot in the 30-acre development project to transform a formerly industrial waterfront into a mixed-use neighborhood. The project began in 2006 and included new infrastructure, parks, affordable housing, and community and retail spaces.
The short walking tour will begin at 50th Avenue and Center Boulevard (by the Gantries) and discussion of the projects will conclude in the outdoor space of at "LIC Bar (http://www.yelp.com/biz/l-i-c-bar-long-island-city)" nearby (where you can join us if you miss the walking tour).
The Urban Sustainability Meetup group had so much fun with the Energy and Environment Happy Hour folks at our joint + POOL talk and happy hour (https://www.meetup.com/Urban-Sustainability-Happy-Hour-Meetup/events/221914778/) that we're going to co-organize with them again for this event
Tour Meeting Location: Meet at 5:45 at 50th Avenue and Center Boulevard (by the Gantries) - take the 7 train to Vernon-Jackson (first stop in Queens).
