Announcing a new Meetup for Urban Adventures!
What: Charles Phoenix 3-D Extraveganza and Clifton's Cafeteria Downtown Romp!
When: Sunday, July 11,[masked]:30 PM
Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)
And yes, it?s all in 3-D! Archivist and Impresario Charles Phoenix has a fabulous new slide show for us, and it is in tantalizing 3-D!
To know Charles? work is to love him?he gives hilarious commentary to equally astonishing slides of Americana splendor in his beloved retro-extravaganzas. I?ve seen him do a vintage trailer slide show, a holiday themed roller skating pageant, and took his incredible Downtown/Disneyland tour, and rank each of them at the pinnacles of entertainment pleasure, and readily vouch for the fun I know you will have! The slides include some vintage cheesecake, and as to Charles' style, imagine the gene splice love child of Pee Wee Herman and Vincent Price lovingly raised by John Waters!
You can read all about this upcoming event here?http://www.charlespho..
Tickets with service fees are $36.99
Turquiose and red are the colors of the day. y'all!
We?ll meet up at the theater about a half hour before start time so that we can sit together at this general admission event.
If you choose to come along for this pay-as-we-go event, be sure and get tickets for the SUNDAY JULY 11,[masked] p.m. show (if you are getting you tickets before the June 27th show, you will have to drag the first click bar that pops up down for that second show! If you click on for tickets for the June 27th show by accident, don?t panic?a few clicks along you will have a chance to delete those and try again?like I did!).
This event is being held at the newly restored Downtown Independent Theater, and if you haven?t been in this part of downtown in a while, you should be pleased out how much it has come back to life. The Downtown Independent is a wonderful part of that resurrection.
After the show, we?ll head on down to an incredible local landmark for an early dinner at the mind boggling Clifton?s Cafeteria?a Phoenix favorite and hilarious photo-op, for a crazy array of food served cafeteria style. The food is old-school delicious, and you would explode before eating more than $15 worth!
Here?s a link to their site?http://www.cliftonsca..
Fingers crossed that they?ll be doing some filming there later in the evening?Clifton?s has been used several times on the show ?Mad Men,? and there?s nothing like going in for some Jell-O and lucking out with some Hamm!
Clifton's is only about a mile away from the theater, so we may just shuttle a few cars down. If it's open (and it usually is), we may also check out the Bradbury Building, which has also been fabulously restored and which has been used in countless movies--most memorably "Blade Runner." If you'd like to carpool to this event, please note that in your RSVP and let us know where you are coming from so interested parties can contact one another.
