MEET FOR A SEED EXCHANGE -
About three years ago, I became interested in food. I’ve always enjoyed cooking and eating, so I guess one could say that I’ve always been interested in food. But one day as I was sitting at home, I happened upon a documentary, ‘Food, Inc.’ That’s when I became intrigued by food... or rather, the process behind food... where it comes from, how it’s grown, etc. It didn’t take much time before I decided that the most fulfilling thing I could do for myself would also be the most fulfilling thing I could do for the world around me, to whatever degree that turns out to be... Enable people to produce fresh, healthy, food for themselves and those around them. Our core beliefs... ~If you don’t produce your own food, or personally know and trust the people who did, you have no idea what’s in it. ~Food should travel no more than 50 miles (at the most!) from farm to plate. (Right now, the average is 1,500 miles for everything Americans eat) ~Local food production builds communities and raises the quality of life for all tiers within those communities. Moreover, it reconnects people with the Earth. ~Food independence is invaluable. Why would you outsource such a vital aspect of living? Our goal is to maximize the use of space (from window or counter space, to greenhouses, to acres) and resources, and help one another find creative solutions to the myriad of problems that are inherent to the current food system. We believe that local food production is the key to creating a sustainable model for the future, and want to be a part of the solution.
