Dear UX'ers of the AKL,

Thank you for attending the UX Happy Hour, we had a pretty good turn out of 20+ with alot of new faces.

Recap of Meeting

After some time, mingling and chatted over beer, we found a quietish corner and shared information on events coming up in June and did a round robin of introductions, highlights include:

  • Penny Hagen and Matt Gould (@pennyhagen and @mattsbrain) are going organize a morning design get-together over coffee somewhere in the CBD.  Nothing gets the creative brain stimulated than some ideas coupled with caffeine and good company.
  • John Graves from slidespeech.com passed around his ipad on a 'show and tell' for an app he's building.  He also shared the time and cost to build the app.
  • 3 design students from Unitec who are new to the meetup group.  They are working on a uni-project to put MOTAT museum on an app and wanted to learn more about User Experience.  Many of us had pearls of wisdom to share with them.  At the end of their project, they are invited to show us what they did and their journey through this project.

Peeps with Jobs

  • Mark T. needs some usability testing on his project. Also he is looking for developers and designers.
  • Intergen's Don Smith (@locksmithdon) is looking for designers. http://www.intergen.c...

Next UX Meeting

Presentation on UX and Agile process given by yours truly.  This will be a discussion.  If you have experience with UX and Agile playground, and are keen on sharing what you know, please contact me or bring your voice to the next event.  It would be great to have 2 mini-pressos on this topic.

We are looking for a space to be able to host this event.  I have one place to inquire in Ponsonby, but if you have a public meeting space centralish that has projector/microphone capabilities, wifi, please contact.  We need a consistent space to have presentations when we aren't bumping elbows at UX Happy Hour.

Calendar of events for June 2012 (I've also placed this on the UX calendar)

June 30 - Gather formerly known as Barcamp AKL @nzgather - http://gathergather.c...

Gather is Auckland’s annual Barcamp, an un-conference that’s been running for the last six years supporting and encouraging the creative community of Auckland.  Tickets are going fast!

I've gone for 2 years now and facilitated a presso on "What is User Experience" http://www.slideshare... I encourage anyone to attend and participate by facilitating a session, whether it be technology or design, or your passion such as beermaking, lomography or playing the ukulele.

That's all for now,

Cheers,
