What is User Experience? with Ona Anicello
Human Centered Design as an approach to product development that involves user feedback at every phase in the cycle. User research methods and techniques can be used to get the appropriate feedback from user interviews, behavioral observations to quantitative analyses. Using the Human Centered Design Approach and conducting UX Research is important as it helps ensure good user experiences prior to launch. And in today's market, a good user experience will give a product the edge needed to compete and surpass its competition. Attendees will be guided through the Human Centered Design Process and the kinds of user research studies that can be conducted during the different phases of the development cycle.
Engaging users in iterative design: Prototyping your way from concept to coding with Camy Naasz
Prototype testing is just as much about finding out what doesn’t work in a design concept as it is finding out what does work. Using a real world example, Camy will share techniques of how to create a design concept, conduct a usability study of that concept and use the results to refine the design so it is ready for coding. You’ll see how a prototype transforms from paper sketches to a high fidelity clickable model and understand how ideas and assumptions are challenged along the way. Camy will also share her tips for how take a prototype out in the field to test with users in their natural environment.
When Prototypes Don't Fly: How to Get Organizational Buy-In for Prototyping with Chuck Johnston
Organizations that have not integrated prototyping into the design process often struggle with understanding not only its value, but also where it fits into a process. This presentation will discuss strategies for dealing with resistance to the adoption of prototyping and presenting prototypes to internal stakeholders and clients.
Afternoon Session: Hands on Prototyping Workshop (1pm-5pm)
Have you ever wanted to step through the entire prototyping process from conception to completion in one afternoon?
Please join Chris McQuistin, Senior UX Designer at Uptop Seattle, for this special hands-on, practical workshop. Chris will explain how to quickly hone your ideas and prime them before prototyping. Then, he will guide teams of 2-4 attendees into designing and constructing mobile foam core prototypes with simulated screen experiences, which will be reviewed individually.
The remaining time will be spent on designing where you will step through the entire prototyping process from conception to completion. At the end of the day you will have a design concept and the materials and know how to take away for your project.
