Utrecht.rb Talks & Drinks!

On the first of september we'll be having talks again! For this occasion, the just launched and well covered in the news startup Blendle is hosting and sponsoring our beers and pizza.

We're still looking for speakers! Ping us if you're interested.

Directions:

From the central station, take the back exit to Jaarbeurs plein. Keep walking straight ahead to the Jaarbeurs (conference halls).

The entrance you need to take is the east entrance (Ingang Oost), when facing the jaarbeurs, this is on the right side of the main entrance. Just follow the signs 'Parking Oost' and then 'Ingang Oost'. When inside, follow the signs Media Plaza (or Blendle). This is up the escalator, through the space ship tunnel. We're doing the talks in the room directly on the right.

Talks:

Martina Šimičić  (@pazinjanka) - Women invading technology
Is there a problem? Are they needed? What can we as a community do to improve the gender ration in software engineering? Followed by short announcement of what are Rails Girls Netherlands preparing for the following year. ...hell won't break loose! Promise!

Mischa Molhoek (@mischamolhoek) - How to write an iOS iPhone app with RubyMotion
Going crazy fixing a bug in a huge objective-C project?    Taking way to long to create a decent prototype iOS app for a customer?    It's time to switch to your beloved language Ruby to create native!    iPhone/iPad apps

Wouter de Vos (@wrdevos)  - Nothing you do will ever matter if you can't communicate it
How to communicate about what you do and don't do as a developer? What do you say to all those customers and colleagues that do not seem to have the slightest idea of what you're  doing? Is there a common language / interface that can bring developers and non-developers closer together? We will look at some examples I came up with, and, if all goes well, have a  discussion afterwards.
