Is Spark replacing Map Reduce?

We are excited to announce our next meetup titled “Is Spark replacing Map Reduce?”. Keys Botzum, a Senior Principal Technologist with MapR Technologies (www.mapr.com), will lead the discussion. Key’s primary responsibility is interacting with customers in the field, but he also teaches classes, contributes to documentation, and works with engineering teams. He has over 15 years of experience in large scale distributed system design.

Keys will address the growing chatter on Spark replacing Hadoop. When should you use Spark standalone versus using it along with Hadoop? How will this evolve over time? For new use cases, is it simply better to skip Hadoop and jump to Spark? Through the lens of real customer case studies, Keys’s talk will discover the characteristics of a successful Spark deployment and where Hadoop and Spark compete and complement.

Parking:
Boccato does have a parking lot between Boccato and East/West Grill but the lot is likely to fill by 6PM. Free street parking is available after 6PM but also tends to fill up in downtown Arlington. So please plan accordingly.

Metro:
Both the Clarendon and Court House metro stations are about half a mile from Boccato.

Building Access:
There are no building access restrictions. Simply walk in the front door of Boccato.
