VanDev: Flexible Rails - Flex 3 on Rails 2

  • Dec 4, 2007 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

In December we have Peter Armstrong of The Vancouver Ruby/Rails Meetup group to introduce us to using Adobe Flex and Ruby on Rails together. Flex supports building powerful graphic user interfaces while Rails simplifies database integration. Join us to see the power of using them together. Following the presentation we'll have round-the-room introductions and then open the floor for networking. This is a networking event so bring your business/contact cards and a story or 2 to share. About the Presentation: This presentation focuses on the why and how of using Adobe Flex 3 and Ruby on Rails 2 together, specifically focusing on HTTPService, XML, REST, Cairngorm and RubyAMF. There will be a short slide presentation and demo. About the Speaker: Peter Armstrong has been developing rich client applications for over 7 years and is the author of the upcoming Manning book
Flexible Rails: Flex 3 on Rails 2. His experience includes being part of the team that won the 2006 Adobe MAX Award for RIA/Web Development. Peter has also been tracking Ruby on Rails since mid-2005 (since before Rails 1.0) and is currently the organizer of
The Vancouver Ruby/Rails Meetup group. He speaks frequently on using Flex and Rails together and has made presentations at The Vancouver Flash/Flex Meetup, a RailsConf 2007 BOF, The Vancouver RIA Developer Camp and Rails to Italy in Pisa. He lives in the Vancouver, BC area and works as a Flex/AIR/Flash developer, writer (see
http://www.flexiblerails.com) and independent consultant (see

It was a good, though concentrated, introduction to flex on rails. Flex was new to me, and it was good to learn more about it, both during the presentation, and from informal networking afterwards.

At times it was hard to keep up with the amount of detail in the presentation but I learned a lot, the door prizes were a hit, and we had an excellent networking session afterwards. Thanks to everyone for participating.

The presentation contained technical intense information and the speaker needed more time to talk about all the aspects, it was quick and enlightening

Interesting talk, and a lot of people I wanted to network with. I'm glad I came.
