===========================================

Hi all,

During my 10 year career as a softare developer I have always been enaged in the role of a full-time, permanent employee. Now I am interested in learning about becoming a contractor and/or self-employed.

I am comfortable that I have the skills and experience to handle most technical challenges. However, I can only guess at what I would need to learn about:

- business licensing
- taxes
- contract wording
- book keeping
- promotion/marketing
- everything else

So, where do I start learning about all this kind of stuff?

For a point of reference, there may be an opportunity for me to peform some technical implementation work for a non-technical friend who has a business idea. As with all my efforts, I have a strong desire to provide effective results, yet I am hesitant to venture into any such arrangement without the business savy. And yeah, I don't want to mess-up and screw the friendship either.

Your input would be appreciated.

Gord
