-- PRESENTATION 7pm Thursday Oct 25: Multi Core - not just for hard core developers!
In October we have returning speaker Maik Hassel to share his experience with developing for multi-core processors. We're reaching the limits for how high we can push clock speeds so now the only way to improve performance is to do more at once. Join us as Maik examines the latest developments in multi-core processing. Following the presentation we'll have round-the-room introductions and then open the floor for networking. This is a networking event so bring your business/contact cards and a story or two to share.

-- OTHER EVENTS: Agile and Microsoft developer conferences.
We have a couple of significant conferences coming to town. Check out:
-- CALENDAR POLICY: We're posting events for other groups.
In the last few days I've started adding non-VanDev events to our calendar as a service to our members. If you know of a local software development related event that is not listed then please let me know. This will be for Lower Mainland events only please.
-- NEW RSVP POLICY: No RSVP limit -- but please keep RSVPs up-to-date.
Several people have suggested that we significantly increase the RSVP limit for our events since some people are not coming when an event is fully booked even though we end up with plenty of space. So let's just remove the limit.
However, please keep your RSVP up-to-date. There is now no reason to RSVP as yes or maybe just to reserve a seat in case you may want to come - it's just noise on the list. However, if you are coming, then please do let us know so that we get your name in for the door prize draw.
- JOB POSTING POLICY ------ Use T-Net and targeted group forums.
Many people have been asking for places to post their job openings. Since VanDev is a broad industry group, any particular posting would be of interest to very few of our members so we do not accept postings on our mailing list. Instead we recommend using T-Net (http://bctechnology.com/frameset_emp.html
) and the various targeted forums listed in our Software Related Groups List (see http://softwaredev.meetup.com/17/pages/Local_Software_Related_Groups/)
-- MAILING LIST POLICY: Summarized on a new page.
Our opt-in mailing list is off to a slow start as we refine our policies. We now have a summary of the current policies up on a new page at http://softwaredev.meetup.com/17/pages/VanDev_Mailing_List_Policy/
. Let me know if you have any comments or recommendations and lets hear those controversial industry bulletins.
-- NEW SERVICE: Software Related Groups List
I've started a new page listing the local software related groups along with some key details for them. If you know of a group that I've missed, please let me know. Or better yet, volunteer to help maintain the list directly. I always appreciate the help.
Check it out at: http://softwaredev.meetup.com/17/pages/Local_Software_Related_Groups/
-- CALL FOR SPEAKERS: For November through March:
If you or someone that you know has something interesting to share with us then let me know. We generally run one event per month and we look for short (about 20 minute) presentations to kick off each meeting. Prior speaking experience is not necessary and we can help you to prepare your presentation. Former VanDev speakers are invited to return. We only get a room booking 2 to 8 weeks in advance so feel free to volunteer for a month before we know the meeting date.
See our Speakers Guide for more details: http://files.meetup.com/144695/VanDevSpeakersGuide.html
-- THANKS TO OUR VOLUNTEERS AND SPONSORS
