Virtual Reality night at The Sawmill

We're having another special VR night, this time at The Sawmill.  An awesome new venue for Virtual Reality; "Modern Motion, Sound & Vision"

David Clement's wireless VR headset is a fixture in the studio, with head tracking tuned for high performance.   Lets have us all meet up there, and check it out!

For a taste, here's a video of the last VR night at Emily Carr, by Johnny Ostrem:

We'll be ordering up some food, so I've setup the RSVP system with Paypal. It's super easy for us to manage, and if you have to change your mind I'm pretty snappy about issuing refunds. Just email me a reminder if you need to.

Some of the common infrastructure we're using for the VR environment can be found here:

We have a Unity project that's a baseline to make this a drop-in VR system.  Select your GameObject and add a tag "mocap" and the 3D tracking is set to match the physical movement.  For the headset we name it "Head". If you want to track other objects, easy just name it and we'll attach markers to the physical thing, and group and name it the same thing, easy!

See you at The Sawmill!

Easily the most exciting new meetup in Vancouver because of the tech itself, the member work and the people who showed up. I can't believe 200 people didn't show, we got spoiled.

Thanks for setting this up and great job organizing this! I had a good time meeting people and trying out some great VR demos. It's nice to see that VR is alive and well in Vancouver! Thanks for making me feel welcome. :-)

Wow. Vancouver's VR scene is thriving! All the demos were fantastic tonight and all leading edge in their tech, design and vision. Clearly there is a growing VR talent pool developing here. Looking forward to the next one. Thanks Aaron for fantastic meetup and great new location. The Sawmill is THE VR headquarters for motion capture.

It's not every day you can slap on a custom wireless oculus rift rig and walk around a full body statue of someone scanned only a few minutes ago. Then pop your head through the wall of the villa to look outside. Brilliant. Thanks to all the organizers!

I got asked, Bring demos? YES for sure! If you want to showcase your thing we'll make room.

    Is the code at:

the Unity project? There doesn't seem to be an assets folder...

If not, where can I find it?

It's the whole kit, the UnityApp folder holds the unity project. I plan on making a minimal prefab kit and making that available for everyone.

The prefab would also eliminate the requirement for Unity Pro, as it'll work without need for any plugin DLLs.
