Drupal Meetup: Mapping in Drupal 7 with OpenLayers

Mapping in Drupal 7 -- Create interesting, attractive location-based maps, configure a map to use different layers/tilesets (even add your own!), use maps to input location-based data, and create maps in Views that show multiple location markers with themeable pop-up dialogues and links to content pages. Toolset: OpenLayers, Views and the Geofield CCK field.

Renee is a CMS Developer and Webmaster at UBC's Department of Computer Science, and co-owner of Panic Stations Media, a tiny multimedia consulting and development shop. She has spent over six years designing and deploying Drupal sites for mid-size departments and businesses, and has spent ten years working as a web developer in the education and non-profit sector. This May she spent a month in Botswana, Africa, deploying a Drupal site on behalf of a support organization for kids with HIV/AIDS; as part of that project, she implemented OpenLayers so that geographical info could be easily added by novice users as new club locations were added.

Great presentation from Rene. Exactly what I was looking for. A simple introduction and discussion of major pain points.

AV problems made it difficult to see the material and a pointer to the presentation would have been helpful. But interesting topic.

If you can't attend (and even if you can), I recommend Mapping with Drupal from O'Reilly http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920021230.do The ebook is a good bargain ($10), and short (150 pages) and it's a good reference to going the OpenLayers and non-OpenLayers routes. I breezed through it on the first read, and it came in handy when I couldn't remember that one thing that gets a lot of people stuck with OpenLayers (which is you have to add a data view).

Have used OpenLayers in one of the project I've done, and would love to learn more. Unfortunately I've got commitment tomorrow. :(

Hi everyone. I am looking forward to learning more about OpenLayers and meeting some of you. One a side note - I know of a job opening for a Back-end Drupal Developer. If anyone's interested to find out more, please grab me to chat more.

I'd love to do a lightning talk about deploying Openlayers in my month as a web developer in Botswana in May!

Sure -- I could go over setting up Openlayers maps in D7? Creating content type with geofield map, creating view to show multiple geofield, setting up map layers? The implementation on the site I did is fairly simple, but there are definitely some gotchas that took some time to figure out :)
