EPUB3 and HTML5 - an Overview

EPUB3 is the newest standard for ebooks. From the overview:

The EPUB® specification is a distribution and interchange format standard for digital publications and documents. EPUB defines a means of representing, packaging and encoding structured and semantically enhanced Web content — including HTML5, CSS, SVG, images, and other resources — for distribution in a single-file format.

Kerem Karatal is going to be doing some research into EPUB3 - especially as it pertains to HTML5 - and presenting an overview of what it is.

Lightning Talks:

1. Luay Kawasme (Vision Critical) – Knockoutjs

Do you find it hectic to keep your UI in synch with the data-model? Have you wondered whether you could achieve clean maintainable JS code? Knockoutjs is the answer. Knockout.js is a library that simplifies data transfer between your web forms and your data model by leveraging databinding techniques.   For more info visit http://knockoutjs.com/

We are looking for additional lightning talks (5 - 10 minutes) or mini-talks (~20min) - please contact us if you're interested.

Good meetup, good location. Speaker was fairly well prepared but spent too much time reading his slides to us. Enjoyed the lightning talk.

If folks who have already published ebooks could put links to them, I'd like to see what others in the group are doing. I've done two, one as an iOS app (before there was EPUB support on iOS): Words for Crows (http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/words-for-crows/id330743379?mt=8) and The Book of It (http://strangeplaces.livingcode.org/2011/04/06/the-book-if-it/) both featuring my wife's poetry. Formatting poetry is tricky in EPUB, but the fixed layout may help.

Hi everyone. Just a reminder that the meetup is on the SECOND FLOOR of the building. We will be there to open the door to the building. Also a reminder to please change your RSVP if you can't make it to the event so someone else can have the spot. Thanks and we'll see you Thursday!

@Christian -- no, this is about ebooks, the newest version of which is actually a flavor of HTML5. Schema.org is about metadata for web pages.

I'm especially interested in what e-readers (both physical and software) either support EPUB3 or have committed to support it.
